Health Benefits of Playing Disc Golf

Disc golf is going from strength to strength, not only in the USA, but all over the world. Disc golf courses have been started in some countries like Belgium, France, Iceland, Czech Republic, Mexico, Peru, and many more across the world. While the United States still leads the pack when it comes to the amount of courses it has, its definitely building international popularity. This year’s Disc Golf European Open is much expected to attract record numbers of players at spectators from both Europe and North America. It is a fun sport that gives a surprisingly high level workout when played, something that is usually overlooked by people who do take part in the sport on a purely recreational basis. Those who are unaware of the health advantages that disc golf can offer, read on to get more details.

Just like the golf, disc golf is a sport that is played over a large area of terrain. Often the terrain of courses can be hilly, or maybe they are situated in wooded areas. Walking around from hole to hole takes a lot of time as well as burning lots of calories. When you walk up and down hills, negotiating obstacles in the woods, as you look around to find your disc is a great exercise. Every disc golf course is very different, with some being larger when compared to others, so the more challenging the course the longer you will expect to walk. At a large course you may end up walking somewhere in the region of three to four miles throughout the entire eighteen holes. Just walking around the course provides a great workout in itself, but when combined with the efforts that are required to throw the disc the workout gets even better.
